The Rules
BASICS
-
THEME is Unity in Community
-
Event Date is 19 April 2025
-
Event Time is 11am-4pm
-
Start time for artists is 8am
-
Stop time for judged pieces is 3pm (if you wish to continue, you will not be considered for judging but you can still have fun)
-
Check in time is from 8am - 10am. You don't have to be there at 8am but please check in before 10am.
-
Check in location is at the Market in the Alley event on the northwest corner of Main Street and Imperial Avenue. There will be a table with a canopy and some volunteers assigning spots and getting signatures.
-
Public usually arrives around 10am to noon
-
Art Spot Locations are on Main Street and Commerce Street south of Charleston. This is a huge footprint. There will be lots of walking for visitors.
-
Art Spot Footprint is 5'x5' of sidewalk. Please remember we are chalking on the portion of the sidewalks nearest the buildings or parking lots and we are leaving enough room for ADA access on all public sidewalks. You may spread out your things but do not block public access and do not block the entrance to your sponsor's shop. Keep in mind you will be exposed to the public. Protect your valuables! Do not leave things out where they can “walk away”. You may test chalk and make samples on other portions of the sidewalk nearby but keep your 5' x 5' judged piece free and clear of extraneous marks. We understand 5' x 5' may seem small to some and huge to others. We are judging everyone on a similar size footprint. If you wish to go larger, you will not be eligible for the awards but you will still receive your stipend. The spaces may not be full sidewalk squares as some portions of our sidewalks are 4’x4’ and other odd sizes. Each space will be marked as a 5’x5’. If you wish to change your location slightly, please contact one of the volunteers to ask if that is possible.
-
Judging will finish in the evening and winners will be notified by email and on the website on 20 April 2025 (we're sorry we can't do it on the day of the contest, there are 50-55 art pieces for the judges to get to in a few hours)

EXTRAS
-
Photographs are encouraged. You must sign a waiver to be photographed. The waiver will be at the sign in table.
-
We ask that you take a good photo of your piece and email it to us AT 18bAssociation@gmail.com for our website and for judging. We will have others taking professional photos but our experience has led us to err on the side of caution when trying to get good photos with the weird outdoor lighting
-
This is an outdoor event. It will happen come light drizzle or shine (but not an all day downpour). Coors Banquet has sponsored 50 shade umbrellas. We will do our best to provide shade, but please come prepared for a day in the sun.
-
There is an artist lounge for you to use the restroom and get snacks and water. We will have the location at the sign in table.
-
We will have volunteers roaming about so you can ask someone to watch your piece while you take a break
