The Nevada Arts Council announces the nomination period for the next State of Nevada Poet Laureate. The Poet Laureate is a governor appointed position. The Nevada Arts Council overseas the selection process and the chosen individual will be submitted to the Governor for final consideration and appointment. The roll of the poet laureate is to propagate the art of poetry and encourage literacy and learning throughout the state. The position of the Nevada Poet Laureate is a two-year term, beginning at the time of appointment in 2024.
To be considered for the position, all applicants must be nominated first. The nomination period will begin November 1, 2023 at 8:00am and will close November 30, 2023 at 5:00pm PST.
A snapshot of requirements:
Applicants must be a current full-time Nevada resident and have been in residence for at least five years prior to the date of the application.
Have a strong body of work, but not limited to, published works.
Have interest/experience in reaching distinct and underserved groups through the arts and humanities.
The role of the Nevada Poet Laureate requires a public outreach project, the details of which will be mutually agreed upon with Nevada Arts Council after the gubernatorial appointment is made.
